A former Park Hill Trojan is set to make his Major League debut at his hometown Kauffman Stadium this week after his contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha.
The Kansas City Royals made it official Monday, Sept. 1 when they called up Carter Jansen from the minors. The 2021 draft selection is ranked as the Royals’ number two prospect, following his meteoric rise through the ranks the past two seasons. Jensen started this season in Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where his swing saw a significant improvement in the spring, resulting in his promotion to Omaha. As a Storm Chaser, Jensen has hit 14 home runs and 11 doubles in just 43 games.
Jensen joins fellow slugger, outfielder Jac Caglianone, who has completed a rehab stint after his first foray into the big leagues. Caglianone’s rehab stint back in Omaha has seen him hit five home runs and 16 RBIs in 16 games, reliving the offensive performance he had earlier in the season that led to his call-up in June. Also joining the expanded 28-man roster is right-hander Luinder Avila, who is expected to be an additional arm in the bullpen after making his major league debut last month in a scoreless frame against Washington. The additional move came following Jonathan India’s placement on the 10-day injury list.
The Royals return to action Tuesday when they host the Los Angeles Angels. Michael Lorenzen will get the start. Pregame is at 6 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9, with first pitch around 6:40 p.m. The Royals enter the game trailing Seattle two-and-a-half games in the wild card chase and nine games behind Detroit in the AL Central.
