The City of Sedalia is asking for the public’s cooperation and awareness following a serious incident of roadway damage at Crown Hill Cemetery.

According to the city, an individual drove through a section of the cemetery that had been clearly cordoned off with cones and barriers for road maintenance work on Thursday. The area in question had recently received a new surface treatment that requires time to cure. By ignoring the closures, the vehicle caused significant damage to the freshly applied surface, undoing the work and forcing City crews to now mill off the damaged section and repave it-at additional cost and delay to the project.

The cemetery will be closed for the remainder of the evening to allow the Public Works Department time to assess the area.

In recent days, several vehicles have been observed attempting to drive around cones and access restricted work zones. The City emphasizes that all traffic control measures are in place for public safety and to protect the integrity of ongoing improvements.

Residents are urged to obey all posted signage, cones and barriers, avoid restricted areas under construction, and report suspicious or reckless behavior to the Sedalia Police Department.
