The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded an $8.1 million contract to improve a pair of intersections along U.S. Route 36 in Macon.

Magruder Paving won the bid to make interchange improvements at the junction between Routes 36 and 63, as well as safety improvements to the nearby at-grade intersection with Kellogg Avenue. The bid also includes a rehabilitation of several bridges along Route 36 in Macon and Bevier, and resurfacing of the highway in both directions. Additional work listed on the project’s web page includes improvements to the intersection of U.S. Route 63 with Business Route 36, featuring traffic signal and lighting upgrades, and reduced island sizes which will facilitate large truck turning movements.

The Commission accepted the bid during their monthly meeting Thursday, Sept. 4 in Branson. MoDOT projects construction to occur in the next year, and will release a more specific timeline and traffic impacts when construction is about to begin.
