Maikel Garcia provided all the offense the Royals would need to take down the Minnesota Twins 2-1 at Kauffman Stadium on Friday, September 5.

The game was scoreless for the first few frames before Garcia connected on a two-run home run in the third. That homer proved to be enough as starter Michael Wacha pitched into the sixth inning, only allowing a run on four hits.

That lone Minnesota run came in the fifth after an RBI double from Jhonny Pereda.

The Royals had to use five relievers, but were able to maintain the lead as Carlos Estevez finished off the Twins in the ninth for his 38th save of the year.

With this win and another Seattle loss, the Royals remain just one game back of the third wild card spot. The Texas Rangers are directly ahead of the Royals, sitting just a half-game behind Seattle. The Royals will now go for the series win against Minnesota today. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium begins at 6:15 p.m. KMMO will join coverage of this game following the clash between Mizzou and Kansas on KMMO FM 102.9.
