No injuries were reported after a fire damaged a home in Boonville on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Boonville Fire Department responded to the fire around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the 700 block of Third Street, across from the former Kemper Military Academy campus. Firefighters reported encountering heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the home, with flames already reaching the second floor. Crews with the department as well as Cooper County Fire Protection District were on the scene for five hours combating the fire and searching for lingering hot spots. According to the department, the fire had spread from the kitchen into the dining room and a concealed void space, allowing it to spread to the second floor and attic space.

The incident remains under investigation. The American Red Cross has provided assistance to the family that was living in the home.
