Plans for a 31-acre residential subdivision on the western edge of Marshall remain stalled, ten months after preliminary maps came before the city’s planning and zoning commission.

Three residents including Amy Weber, representing Fitzgibbon Hospital, addressed the Marshall City Council at last week’s meeting, asking why the city had not moved forward with the proposed Meadows at Harvest Creek. Weber says Marshall needs quality housing in order to attract top talent to the hospital, as well as current and future employers.

Mayor Craig Thompson says city officials are considering an agenda item at next week’s regularly scheduled council meeting to address resident concerns. He says that most of the issues preventing the development from going forward stem from needing to meet stormwater requirements set by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Plans to extend wastewater and electrical service to the area had been approved by Marshall Municipal Utilities last November. The Marshall City Council will need to sign off on a final plat before construction can begin on a subdivision that could potentially have 100 homes.

The council is slated to meet in closed session Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 5:45 p.m. to discuss real estate.
