The Saline County Commission has approved a resolution recognizing Tuesday, Sept. 16 as National Voter Registration Day.

Commissioners adopted the resolution during their session Wednesday, Sept. 10. County Clerk Brittni Burton says the annual event falls on the third Tuesday of each September, and serves as an important reminder for Americans to ensure they are able to fulfill their civic duty by registering to vote.

Burton says political and civic groups will host voter registration drives Tuesday at high schools across Saline County to mark the occasion.

Burton says residents are encouraged to check on their current voter registration status by visiting the Missouri Secretary of State’s website.

Also Wednesday morning, commissioners provided an update on two bridge projects. Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden noted that requests for qualification are being sought for contractors to replace the Paw Paw Trail bridge north of Gilliam, while Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner reported that the commission visited with engineers last week to receive an update on plans to replace the 245th Road bridge outside Mount Leonard.
