A grand jury in Pettis County has handed down a five-count indictment against a Mexico woman accused of attempting to defraud an area car dealership.
According to court documents, the grand jury presented a true bill Wednesday, Sept. 10 on all five charges against 40-year-old Patricia Harris, including identity theft, trafficking in stolen identities, filing false documents, forgery, and stealing a motor vehicle. A probable cause statement from Sedalia Police accuses Harris of using an altered driver’s license, fake address, and the date of birth of an Oklahoma man when she attempted to purchase a vehicle from a car dealer in Sedalia. The Oklahoma man then contacted the dealership, reporting that the purchase made with his identity was fraudulent. During their investigation, police say they made contact with Harris and discovered that she had in her possession the personal information of another person.
Harris remains in the Pettis County Jail on a $10,000, cash-only bond. Her arraignment is set for Friday at 10 a.m.
