The Kansas City Royals fell back to .500 following an 8-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, September 12.

The Royals snagged an early lead in the first after an RBI single from Maikel Garcia.

The lead wouldn’t last long, as the Phillies tied it in the second on a sacrifice fly from Rafael Marchan, and then took the lead for good after a two-run homer from Bryce Harper in the third.

The Phillies poured it on with an RBI single from Otto Kemp and an RBI double from Harrison Bader. Kyle Schwarber produced and RBI double in the fourth to make it 6-1 Philadelphia.

Bobby Witt Jr. drove in Kansas City’s second run in the seventh with an RBI groundout. Bryson Stott rounded out the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Michael Lorenzen took the loss, allowing six runs on ten hits and two walks over three innings of work.

Kansas City falls to 74-74 on the season, ten games back of Detroit in the AL Central, and six games back of Seattle and Houston in the wild card standings.

The Royals will look to even the series in Philly today. Ryan Bergert is on the mound for KC. Pregame coverage begins at 4:30, with first pitch at 5:05 p.m. on KMMO FM 102.9.
