
The St Louis Cardinals provided early run support for Michael McGreevy, as he posted seven shutout innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 shutout of the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Busch Stadium.
Nolan Arenado provided the Cardinals’ first run in the first, delivering a sacrifice fly that scored Brendan Donovan. Two innings later, Thomas Saggese belted a line drive over left-center field for a two-hun home run. All three runs were charged to Reds starter Andrew Abbott, who allowed all eight Cardinals hits but recorded seven strikeouts. As for the Cardinals, McGreevy limited the Reds to just three hits, striking out six while walking three. JoJo Romero and Riley O’Brien completed the game with unblemished frames, including two punchouts for Romero in the eighth and one for O’Brien in the ninth as he posted his fifth save of the season.
The Cardinals improve to 74-78, 4.5 games behind the Mets for the third wild card spot. The series concludes Wednesday afternoon, with Andre Pallante getting the start. First pitch is at 12:15 p.m.
