The St Louis Cardinals are beginning to wind down their 2025 campaign, with one of their top infielders ruled out for their final nine games.
Ahead of Wednesday’s 6-2 loss to the Reds, the Cardinals placed first baseman Willson Contreras on the ten-day injured list because of a mild strain in his right biceps. The listing means he won’t be available for the Cardinals’ final homestand against Milwaukee, as well as the final roadtrip to San Francisco and Chicago. MLB.com reports that Contreras had experienced tightness in his bicep for two weeks. The 33-year-old will wrap up the season leading the Cardinals with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs, in addition to setting a career-high with 31 doubles.
The Cardinals (74-79) will enter Friday’s game against Milwaukee trailing the Mets for the third wild card spot by five games. Sonny Gray will get the start for Saint Louis, while Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound for the Brewers, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m.
