Helmets for the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens^ opponents in the NFL 2024 AFC Conference Championship game

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their dominance of the Baltimore Ravens, scoring two touchdowns late in the second quarter to take control and not look back in a 37-20 win Sunday, Sept. 28 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Baltimore had scored on their opening drive, going 70 yards in nine plays. The Chiefs responded with a nine-play drive that stalled on the 20, setting up the first of two Harrison Butker field goals. The second field goal came after a turnover in the red zone on Baltimore’s next drive, when Leo Chenal snatched his first career interception.

After forcing a three-and-out on Baltimore’s next possession, the Chiefs needed just five plays to take the lead, a four-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes to JuJu Smith-Schuster.  The Chiefs extended the lead two minutes later with Isiah Pacheco recording an eight-yard touchdown pass. They also had a chance to make the lead even further after recovering a fumble, but Butker’s 56-yard field goal attempt went wide left. Baltimore closed out the half with a 43-yard field goal.

The Chiefs didn’t lose momentum in the locker room, starting the second half with a six-play, 65-yard drive capped by a 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyquan Thornton. The Ravens and Chiefs then exchanged field goals before Baltimore turned the ball over on downs on their next two drives. The Chiefs added a fourth-quarter score with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Hollywood Brown, while Justice Hill added a 71-yard touchdown run just after the two-minute warning to cap Baltimore’s scoring.

Mahomes threw for four touchdowns, going 25-for-37 with 270 yards. Xavier Worthy led both phases of the offense, catching five passes for 83 yards while recording two rushes totaling 38 yards. Kareem Hunt carried the ball 13 times for 34 yards while Travis Kelce hauled in five passes for 48 yards. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was sacked three times and went 14-for-20 for 147 yards, before leaving the game in the third quarter with a reported hamstring injury. Star running back Derrick Henry was limited to 42 yards on eight carries.

The Chiefs are now 2-2 on the season and will have an extra day to prepare for their Monday Night Football tilt next week at Jacksonville. Kickoff on Oct. 6 will be at 7:15 p.m., with pregame at 6 p.m. on KMMO.
