Three fallen firefighters from our area will be among ten names added to the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri this weekend.

The names of Capt. Christopher Clevenger of Sweet Springs, Capt. Vernon Collett of Johnson County, and Deputy Chief Donald Kammerich of Pilot Grove will be added to the state’s memorial to fallen firefighters this weekend at a ceremony in Kingdom City. The ceremony will take place Sunday, Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the memorial, near the intersection of Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 54, and will also be livestreamed on the memorial’s Facebook page. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to a nearby indoor location.

As part of the weekend of remembrance, the memorial will also host a candlelight vigil honoring Missouri firefighters who have died in service. That vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the memorial. Governor Mike Kehoe has also directed that the dome of the Missouri State Capitol be lit in red Saturday evening in their honor.
