Prosecutors in Carroll County have charged a Carrollton man with two counts of statutory sodomy following his arrest over the weekend.
According to court documents, Carrollton police received a report Sunday, Oct. 5 that a 16-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted at a home in the city Saturday. Officers took statements from the girl, who accused 32-year-old Howard Eugene Hughes Jr of assaulting her after she sat down on his bed. The probable cause statement alleges that Hughes rolled the victim over and assaulted her twice. When he was questioned by police Sunday afternoon, Hughes claimed that the victim had made advances toward him. Police added that Hughes had called his mom after he was placed under arrest and made the same statements to her.
Hughes is being held on $50,000 bond. A date for his initial court appearance is pending.
