A Marshall man is behind bars, accused of striking a house with his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
A probable cause statement accuses 28-year-old AK Soiter of driving his SUV into a residence around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. A resident in the house told police that she had heard scraping noises outside the home, then observed headlights through her window before hearing a boom, believed to be that of a vehicle hitting the home. Marshall Police say officers then spotted an SUV matching the description provided to them by a neighbor. An officer noted in the statement that the SUV had extensive front-end damage and was emitting a smell of burning antifreeze.
A brief pursuit followed, which ended when the vehicle failed to accelerate. Officers then arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as Soiter. The statement alleges that Soiter was intoxicated and uncooperative with law enforcement during the booking process, and that alcohol was found on the floorboard of the front driver seat of the vehicle.
Soiter is facing felony charges of property damage, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting arrest, as well as misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash only. His initial court appearance is set for Tuesday morning at 11 a.m..
