A Higginsville man remains in a Lafayette County jail without bond, after pleading not guilty Tuesday, Oct. 7 to charges that he attempting to rape his co-worker over the weekend.
According to a probable cause statement, Higginsville Police conducted a pair of interviews with the victim of an alleged sexual assault that took place early Sunday morning at a residence in the city. The victim told officers that she picked up her co-worker, identified as 48-year-old Mathew Adjokatcher, to grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant. She said that Adjokatcher convinced her to bring their meals to his apartment.
The statement goes on to say that while she was eating her meal, Adjokatcher allegedly grabbed her and touched her inappropriately. After she told him several times to stop, Adjokatcher allegedly grabbed her by the wrist, led her to his bedroom, then attempted to undress and assault her. The two returned to their place of work, where she was able to inform her coworkers and then law enforcement of the situation.
Officers arrested Adjokatcher after interviewing him at his apartment. He now faces felony charges of attempted rape, sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse. Officers suggested in their statement that Adjokatcher is a flight risk because he is originally from Boone County and has no ties outside of work to Lafayette County. As a result, he remains in jail with no bond. His next court date is the morning of Oct. 16.
