The Sedalia City Council approved three measures Monday, Oct. 6 that will allow the city’s fire department to install an engine exhaust system at both their fire stations.

The council voted to accept an Assistance for Firefighters grant that had been awarded for the purchase of a Plymovent engine exhaust system. City administrator Matthew Wirt says the system will improve firefighter safety while maintaining the city’s fleet of fire trucks.

The grant totals $65,900, with the city expected to match the remaining $5990.91 of the cost. Wirt said the city was “pleasantly surprised” to receive the grant, which will ensure both the Fire Department’s headquarters and the replacement Central Fire Station have the equipment.

The grant award and purchase come as Sedalia city leaders broke ground on the new Central Fire Station and future Memory Lanes bowling alley at a ceremony Wednesday morning.
