Kansas City Chiefs branded football laying on the grass^ with the arrowhead KC logo showing.

The Kansas City Chiefs took the lead late in the first half and didn’t look back as they tamed the Detroit Lions 30-17 on Sunday, Oct. 12 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Patrick Mahomes threw for three touchdowns, including his 300th career touchdown pass, when the Chiefs went for it on fourth and three from the six.  The pass to Worthy gave the Chiefs the 6-3 lead and Mahomes another record, as he took 137 games to reach the milestone. This surpassed Dan Marino’s mark by eight games. Harrison Butker’s point-after kick was no good.

The Lions took the lead back on the next possession, but their injury-riddled defense struggled to keep up with the Chiefs offense, as Mahomes punched it in late in the second quarter from the one.  The Chiefs would score on their first possession of the second half with a nine-yard pass to Hollywood Brown to make the score 20-10.

After the Lions got back within three with a four-yard pass from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta, the Chiefs responded in kind with Mahomes’ second touchdown pass of the night to Brown. Butker added a 33-yard field goal to cap the scoring with 2:26 remaining in the game.

Mahomes threw 22-for-30 for 257 yards. Travis Kelce had the most receiving yards, bringing down six catches for 78 yards. Isiah Pacheco led the Chiefs running game with 51 yards on 12 carries. The Chiefs were not assessed any accepted penalties during the game, a significant improvement from last week. However, the game did end with a scuffle, when Detroit’s Brian Branch took a swing at JuJu Smith-Schuster after the clock hit zero.

The Chiefs are back to .500 with a 3-3 mark. They will host the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday, with kickoff at noon. Pregame will be at 11 a.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
