Jimmy Sunggerud scored twice, including on the game’s first power play, to lead the St Louis Blues to a 5-2 win Monday, Oct. 13 over the Vancouver Canucks north of the border on Canada’s Thanksgiving holiday.
Snuggerud opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the contest, when Pius Suter collected Snuggerud’s first shot attempt, then fed the pick to Mathieu Joseph who tapped it back toward Snuggerud, who sent a wrist shot it past goalie Kevin Lankinen. Brayden Schenn doubled the margin early in a second period that saw Snuggerud’s second goal of the night, as well as the first goal in a Blues uniform for Nick Bjugstad. Vancouver’s Keifer Sherwood had both of the Canucks goals in this frame, including a short-handed goal when he beat Jordan Binnington on a breakaway. The Blues kept Vancouver in check during the third, with Jake Neighbours scoring an empty-netter to seal the game.
Binnington saved 27 of Vancouver’s 29 shots on goal as the Blues won their second game of the season, both of them north of the border. They return home Wednesday evening for the start of a four-game home stand, with the Chicago Blackhawks paying a visit. Puck drop at Enterprise Center will be at 8:30 p.m.
