Marshall-Saline Development Corporation Director Conner Swift provided an update on the recent acquisition of the former Northwest school property and discussed MSDC’s plans for it moving forward.

Swift was able to confirm that MSDC now owns the property and is interested in opening a childcare facility at the site.

In September, the Marshall Public Schools Board of Education voted to proceed with a deal allowing MSDC to assume ownership of the building. The deal was reportedly a land swap, with MSDC providing MPS with two lots they previously had for sale, according to MPS Superintendent Caleb Petet.

Classes in the Northwest, Benton, and Eastwood properties were all relocated to the new Marshall Intermediate School, which opened its doors to students in August.

Swift also spoke about MSDC forming partnerships to offer scholarships for Secondary Education opportunities in the community.

Swift presented this information to the MSDC board during its meeting on Tuesday, October 14. No action was taken by the board at this time.
