Marshall Municipal Utilities Underground facilities crews will start their annual fire hydrant flushing program beginning on Sunday, October 19.

Crews will begin the program at 7 a.m. Sunday with major truck lines that go to Cargill, the Spainhower Building, and Fitzgibbon Hospital. Crews will continue the process throughout the city until Thursday. The complete schedule is below:

Monday (Oct. 20): Crews will work areas north of Arrow Street,
Tuesday (Oct. 21): Crews will work all areas west of Odell Avenue, between Arrow and College, including all of the Westport Addition,
Wednesday (Oct. 22): Crews will work areas east of Odell Avenue, south of Arrow Street,
Thursday (Oct. 23): Crews will work areas south of College Street, west of Odell Avenue.

MMU is also conducting a free chlorine conversion during this process. A free chlorine conversion occurs when a water system switches its disinfection process from combined chlorine to free chlorine. MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom explains that the program is a recommendation from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to help maintain the system.

Bergstrom says residents may experience temporary changes in taste, odor, and discoloration during the conversion and flushing.

Residents are encouraged to contact MMU Underground Facilities personnel at 660-886-6966 if there are any water problems after crews finish with the program. You can view the complete program schedule by visiting this story posted on our website at KMMO.com.
