An eastbound lane of U.S. Route 50 west of Knob Noster remains closed Friday, Oct. 17 as emergency crews respond to a train derailment outside the Montserrat community.
This comes after a derailment of a train along the Union Pacific railroad was reported around 2 a.m. Friday morning. About 20 cars are reported to have come off the tracks, blocking two crossings. Johnson County Emergency Management and the Missouri Department of Transportation closed both lanes of Route 50 from the intersection with Route P east to NE 175th St. for about seven hours Friday morning. One lane has since re-opened, with westbound traffic remaining unaffected.
Because of the blocked tracks, all four Amtrak Missouri River Runner trains between Kansas City and St Louis scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17, 2025 are cancelled.
