The Odessa Board of Aldermen approved a bill to exempt the city from a statewide act that temporarily extends liquor sales during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With Kansas City hosting six matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Missouri Legislators approved SB 735, which allows holders of a liquor license to operate 24 hours a day and allows for the consumption of alcoholic beverages between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 a.m. of the following day. The bill is in effect throughout the duration of the tournament, from June 11, 2026, to July 19, 2026.
City Administrator Shawna Davis says that the bill allows municipalities to exempts themselves from this extension, which is what the Board of Aldermen voted to do during its October 13th meeting.
The board also approved a contract with Poor Boy Tree Service for tree trimming and removal across the city. Davis says the board approved this contract because the city has an ordinance in place that requires trees to be trimmed back 20 feet away from power lines.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 27.
