Eight area athletes including Kennedy King of Marshall are among the girls competing for singles and doubles titles over the next two days at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

King is among 16 girls vying for the singles title in Class One beginning Thursday, Oct. 23. She’ll begin the competition against Miranda Yeates of Affton. Also representing the area is Odessa’s Kaylyn Seals. She drew Abby Selsor of St Louis Notre Dame for her opening round match. Eight athletes will advance to Friday’s championship and consolation semifinals.

Three area pairs will pursue a Class One doubles title, including two that will start off on opposite sides of the net. Ada Stoner and Nora Knipmeyer of Lafayette County drew Chillicothe’s Lexy Smith and Lydia Bonderer. On the other side of the bracket, Lola Walter and Aliyah May of Odessa will start the morning against Eleanor Hromadka and Mia Valencia of Bishop DuBourg.

First-round contests begin at 9 a.m., with the semifinals and placement matches set for Friday morning.
