The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam.
According to a statement released Monday, Oct. 27 by Sheriff Daniel Kirchoff, scammers are calling residents, falsely identifying themselves as deputies or employees of the Sheriff’s Office. The caller then claims that a friend or family member is in custody and must post bond or pay for GPS monitoring. The scammers could also use the name of actual deputies or provide realistic case information to appear legitimate.
Kirchoff reminds the public that his office will not request or collect payment for bonds or GPS monitoring over the phone. He says all legitimate bond transactions are handled in person at the Sheriff’s Office on through the Saline County Circuit Court.
