High school football playoffs are underway across Missouri, with a handful of districts kicking off Thursday, Oct. 30.

That included all three games in Class Five, District Seven, which were decisively won by the host teams. Second-seeded Smith-Cotton shut down the Grandview Bulldogs 42-7 in Sedalia. The Tigers host third-seeded Raytown next week, after the Bluejays shut out Columbia Battle 42-0. On the other side of the district bracket, Belton had no trouble with Rustin, shutting them out 48-0 and setting a trip to top-seeded Grain Valley next week.

Warrensburg now knows who they’ll host next week in Class Four, District Seven. The top-seeded Tigers have this week off, but their eyes were on the four/five matchup Thursday night in Kansas City, where the Raytown South Cardinals took care of Lincoln College Prep 24-13. Two MRVC squads got early starts to their playoff and early convincing wins, as Holden blanked Diamond 56-0 in Class Two, District Four, while Lexington upended third-seeded KIPP KC Legacy 42-6 in Class Two, District Six. One Class One game in our area took place Thursday night, as Gallatin rolled past Plattsburg 54-20.

We have two games on our airwaves tonight. On AM 1300, Marshall visit Warrenton in the first round of Class Four, District Five action, while on FM 102.9, it’s an eight-man contest in District Three when Santa Fe visit Sweet Springs. Both games will have pregame at 6:40 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m., and both games will also stream on KMMO.com. Cole Camp have a bye this week and will begin district play next week hosting Russellville.

After our games, it’s a playoff edition of the Pigskin Post Game Show, as we’ll update the brackets and visit with area coaches to highlight their results and the road ahead.
