
Three area softball teams are one win away from bringing home state championships.
In Class Three, the Chillicothe Hornets took advantage of four errors and seven walks to down the Macon Tigerettes 9-3 yesterday (Friday) afternoon at Meador Park in Springfield. Landry Marsh pitched all seven innings in the win, striking out ten while giving up the three runs on six hits. Half of those hits were claimed by Reece Barnett, including one run batted in. The Hornets will face Doniphan for the state title this (Saturday) afternoon at 12:15 p.m. Meanwhile, Macon got past Cassville 6-5 last (Friday) night for third place.
In Class Two, Holden claimed two runs in the bottom of the seventh to achieve a 3-2 walk off winner over Mid-Buchanan. Macey Greene had two hits to lead the Eagles, while Olivia Wooster went the distance from the circle, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out ten. Holden faces South Harrison this (Saturday) morning at 10 a.m., after South Harrison overpowered Montgomery County 16-0.
In Class One, Gallatin invoked the run rule with one out in the sixth inning, shutting out the Halfway Cardinals 10-0. Paige Heldenbrand went three-for-four to lead the Bulldogs, also crossing the plate three times while batting in another run. Brynn Bird recorded the shutout, with all but two of her outs being strikeouts, while allowing two hits and a walk. Gallatin will take on defending champions Saint Elizabeth today at 2:30 p.m., after the Hornets defeated Princeton 5-3.
