The Sedalia City Council accepted a sanitary sewer easement from the State of Missouri for the Governor Michael L. Parson Arena on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
The easement was accepted during the council’s meeting Monday night. City Administrator Matthew Wirt says the easement allows for the extension of a sewer line for the new arena.
Construction on the new arena will be complete sometime in 2026.
The council also authorized the Sedalia Police Department to begin the application process for the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership program grant. Wirt notes the grant would help cover half the cost of a bulletproof vest.
In other news, council members approved an agreement with Duke’s Root Control for chemical root control of the city’s sewer mains. Also during the meeting, Wirt was appointed to the Sedalia Area Tourism Commission, filling previous City Administrator Kelvin Shaw’s term, which ends December 31, 2026.
