The Higginsville Board of Aldermen approved some changes to its electric rates during its meeting on Monday, November 3.

According to City Administrator Jeanette Dobson, electric rates in the city haven’t increased in several years and the last electric rate analysis was completed in September 2014. Dobson says this prompted the Board of Aldermen to hire Toth and Associates to conduct a new utility rate analysis to help decide on new rates.

Dobson says residential customers would see an average increase of $10.55 per month. The new rates will go into effect on bills mailed out on December 31, 2025.

The board also approved a street closure request from the Chamber of Commerce for the annual Christmas parade and Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting on Tuesday, December 2. The city approved closing Main Street from 15th to 22nd from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.

The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 17.
