The Marshall City Council accepted a bid for the purchase of a new street sweeper for the city’s municipal services department.
The bid was the primary item of action taken during a brief meeting Tuesday, Nov. 4 that saw the absence of Mayor Craig Thompson and two council members. City administrator JD Kehrman says the sweeper will be purchased through a cooperative purchasing agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
.
The sweeper will cost the city $221,628, which Kehrman says is about $2000 below what the city had budgeted. The current sweeper will be traded in at a value of $40,000.
During his report Tuesday evening, Kehrman updated the council on a handful of issues brought to his attention during the previous meeting. Among those was a fence still standing at the site of the former Eastwood Elementary School. Kehrman says the fence will come down, as the city continues to make progress on assuming ownership of the site.
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the Marshall City Council gave first reading to its ordinance calling the April 7, 2026 Municipal Election, with a two-year seat in each ward up for grabs, as well as the mayor for a four-year term. The second reading is expected to take place during their next meeting Nov. 18.
