The Concordia Board of Aldermen elevated one of their own to serve as mayor for the next five months.

At the beginning of their Monday, Nov. 3 meeting, the board voted to appoint mayor pro tem and first ward aldermen Kaleb Nierman as the new mayor. He succeeds Michael Brown, who stepped down last month upon his appointment as the interim southern district commissioner in Lafayette County. City administrator Dale Klussman says aldermen will now need to find a replacement for Nierman’s now-vacated seat on the board, with both coming up for election in April.

Klussman adds that whoever is elected mayor in April will serving the last unexpired year on the term before it comes up again for election in 2027.

Also Monday night, Klussman informed the board of aldermen of an emergency purchase made to repair the furnace at City Hall. A heat exchanger was purchased from Bierman Heating and Cooling totaling $2575 and was installed this week. Klussman also announced that while City Hall will close next Tuesday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day, the board of aldermen will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss a proposed ordinance concerning road pre-treatments.
