Two proposed tax levy increases were soundly rejected by voters Tuesday, Nov. 4.

State Fair Community College’s proposed ten-cent operating tax levy increase went down to defeat in all but one county where voters could weigh in on the measure.  Unofficial returns showed 3177 voters that cast a ballot opposed the increase, including 67.1 percent of Pettis County voters.

Voters in the Morgan County R-I School District of Stover also opposed a proposed 63-cent levy increase for construction of expanded athletic facilities.  The measure failed by a 499-to-238 vote, with 63 percent of voters in the Stover precinct opposed.

Meanwhile, voters in Marceline gave their approval by a three-to-one margin to the issuance of $30 million of bonds for improvements to the city’s wastewater and water works systems.  In Fayette, 55 percent of voters opposed the city’s proposal to convert their elected city marshal position into an appointed Chief of Police.  The result now means that the marshal position, which Bo Wells was appointed to in August, will remain on the April 7, 2026 municipal election ballot.
