The No. 19 Missouri Tigers were held scoreless at the half and couldn’t keep up the Texas A&M offense in a 38-17 loss to the No. 3 Aggies on Saturday, November 8, at Faurot Field.
The game started slow for the offenses, with both teams trading punts on each of the first four possessions of the game. The Aggies finally broke through near the end of the first quarter, when Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed found Ashton Bethel-Roman in the end zone with a four-yard touchdown pass to cap off a nine play, 59-yard drive.
Missouri’s offense would continue to struggle in the second quarter, with their drives ending with a punt, a turnover on downs, and then a lost fumble that was recovered and returned by the Aggies to the Mizzou two-yard line. The Aggies would go up by two scores two plays later, with EJ Smith rushing it into the end zone.
Texas A&M scored another touchdown in the third quarter after a punt from the Mizzou offense to make it 21-0. Missouri finally got on the board with 6:50 to play in the third quarter thanks to a four-yard touchdown carry from Jamal Roberts. The Aggies added a field goal before the end of the third quarter to make it 24-7.
The Tigers got a field goal and a 45-yard touchdown carry from Ahmad Hardy, but the Aggies orchestrated two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to keep the game out of reach.
Mizzou freshman quarterback Matt Zollers struggled, completing just seven of his 22 passes for 77 yards. Roberts and Hardy paced the offense for the Tigers, combining to rush for 219 yards.
This is the second straight loss for Mizzou, and third loss in the last four weeks for a program that started the season 5-0. The Tigers are back in action next week to host Mississippi State. Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at Faurot Field.
