Only a smattering of snowflakes accompanied this past weekend’s cold front, providing no relief to areas of northern and central Missouri who are in the midst of drought conditions.
The front brought with it snow and wintry precipitation to areas north of the listening area, while parts of Missouri that have been under drought conditions for weeks remain parched. National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Curtis warns that relief may not be in sight for the short term.
Despite 1.14 inches of rain in the final week of October, no change was indicated for our area in Thursday morning’s most recent update of the U.S. Drought Monitor. While most of southern Missouri saw widespread improvement, areas between Clinton and Butler fell into severe drought. 60.81% of Missouri is in some stage of drought, including 19.44% of the state in severe drought, while another 30.49% is in abnormal dryness.
