The Missouri State Bears have just as many wins as Mizzou on the season, and they want to add to it this December.

CBS Sports is reporting that Missouri State University will petition the NCAA for a waiver that would allow them to accept a bowl bid in their first year as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Bears earned the coveted sixth win with a 21-17 comeback victory Saturday at Liberty, as Jacob Clark threw a 13-yard touchdown to Tristan Gardner with 27 seconds remaining in the contest. Schools that move from the championship to bowl subdivisions are excluded from postseason consideration for their final year in the FCS and first year in FBS. Athletic Director Patrick Randsell acknowledged the NCAA’s lack of willingness to waive the rule, including in 2023 when James Madison started their first season in the FBS 10-0, but said that the Bears would, “let the chips fall where they fall.”

Teams excluded from the postseason because of this rule can accept a bowl bid if not enough teams reach six wins to qualify. 82 teams are needed to fill all the bowls planned for this season. Western Michigan became the 60th to clinch a bowl bid when they defeated Ohio 17-13 on Tuesday night. Two more teams from the Mid-American Conference are expected to clinch bowl bids Wednesday evening.

Missouri State is currently on a four-game win streak and will host their homecoming game Saturday afternoon against the Miners of Texas-El Paso.
