The Marshall High School boys soccer team is gearing up for its Class 2 State Quarterfinal tilt against Springfield Catholic this Saturday.
The Owls repeated as Class 2 District 6 champions, defeating Helias Catholic 2-1 after seven rounds of penalty kicks. The win also marked the third time in the last four seasons the Owls secured the district championship, with Marshall also winning the Class 2 State Championship in 2022.
Marshall head coach Justin Van Winkle says he is proud of the work his team has put in this season as they compete for the state title.
Marshall goes into the Quarterfinals with a 21-4 record, where they’ll face the Springfield Catholic Fightin’ Irish. The District 5 Champions are 27-1 on the season, with their only blemish being a 1-0 loss to Class 4 Ozark on September 23. Van Winkle says he’s already reviewed film to help his team prepare.
Saturday’s contest will be hosted by the Fightin’ Irish. Kickoff is still to be determined. The winner will advance to the MSHSAA State Championships on November 21st and 22nd at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton.
