The Missouri Valley Vikings women’s soccer team made the drive home on Route 240 with a new item for the trophy case, as they shut out Central Methodist 2-0 on Wednesday, Nov. 12 in Fayette to claim the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament title.

The Vikings scored a goal in each half. In the 39th minute, a long-range shot toward goal from Viktoria Einsbor deflected off the crossbar, toward the waiting feet of Heliamar Mora inside the Eagle box. Mora put her shot past Eagles keeper Amber Bennett to record her first goal of the season. The Vikings added insurance in the 74th minute when an Ashley Arribas shot was deflected by an Eagle defender and into the net for an own-goal. Missouri Valley outshot Central Methodist 10-2, with both Eagle shots saved by Marta Carrasco Mesa.

The undefeated season continues for the Vikings, who are now 16-0-4 and retained their number four ranking in this week’s NAIA Coaches’ poll. Meanwhile, Central Methodist suffered their second loss of the season and are now 16-2-2, after moving up to 11th in the national poll. Both teams have secured automatic berths into the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, and will learn their places on the bracket Friday evening.
