The Marshall Owls’ bid to return to the state tournament came up short on the road, as the Owls fell 3-1 to the Fightin’ Irish of Springfield Catholic. Marshall had equalized and gone a man up after a Catholic player was shown a red card, but a penalty kick awarded to the Irish was successfully converted for the game-winner. The Owls’ season concludes at 21-5, while Catholic will face Harrisonville in a semifinal Friday evening at 5 p.m.
