The Slater Wildcats dedicated their new gym floor Friday, but they’ll have to wait almost a month before their varsity teams have a chance to play on it.

Slater fans turned out Friday, Nov. 14 for the dedication of the Joe Kleine Roscoe White Court, the culmination of a project to replace the previous floor that had been in use for almost seven decades. Supt. Dr Terry Lorenz says some junior high games have already taken place on the new surface.
.

As for the first Slater varsity game, that won’t take place until Dec. 11 for the boys against Tipton and Dec. 12 for the girls in a conference clash with Community. The first of seven road games for Slater begins Friday night at Prairie Home. That’ll also mark Lorenz’ first game as Slater’s girls basketball coach, after a 15-year hiatus.

22 girls are on the Slater roster this winter, including nine from last year’s roster. At least two players are new to Slater’s roster as part of the co-op with Malta Bend. Lorenz says his girls are adjusting to his style of play and coming together as a team.

Both Slater squads are taking part in the Jamestown jamboree Tuesday against Jamestown and Prairie Home. Before Slater’s home opener, the Wildcats will travel to Keytesville, Northwest of Hughesville, and Tina-Avalon, and participate in the Glasgow tournament. Slater will host its 45th Wildcat Classic the week of Jan. 26.
