
The Marshall High School boys basketball team is entering its second season with head coach Mike Varner, and is looking to build off a season that saw them finish second in Class 4 District 14.
The Owls finished with a 14-15 record last season, making it to the District 14 Championship Game where they fell to Center 64-38. Varner reflected on his first season with the team and credits his assistant coaches for helping bring a new mindset to the program.
The Owls are returning the majority of its starting rotation from last year, including seniors Chase Thompson and Brody Kueker and juniors Kane Viquesney and Angel Aguirre. Varner says he hopes the team will continue to play with intensity.
The Owls open up the season with a road doubleheader at Sweet Springs on Friday. The girls game begins at at 6, with the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
