The Fayette Board of Aldermen gave first reading last week to a pair of ordinances that would shift the approval of business licenses and other requests to the city administrator’s office.

A proposed ordinance would allow the administrator to issue business licenses, rather than require council approval for each license. The second reading of the ordinance is expected at the next board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 25.  City administrator Deanna Cooper tells KMMO News that aldermen will also consider second reading of an ordinance that would allow her office to handle camping reservations at DC Rogers Park. She says that currently, the Fayette Police Department is responsible for those reservations.

Also last week, the board hosted a public hearing on a proposed amendment to zoning regulations that would allow short-term rentals to operate in a portion of buildings zoned B-1. Cooper said no opposition was lodged during the hearing, and that aldermen gave first reading to the ordinance making that change. The board also began discussions on insurance agreements with the Fayette Senior Center and Fayette Public Library, with decisions tabled until next Tuesday’s meeting.

Lastly, the board discussed a grant application seeking up to $190,000 from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to conduct an inventory of the city’s service lines and identify those that are contain lead.
