The No. 18 Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling program is set to host the annual Missouri Valley Open on Friday and Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The tournament is the largest collegiate women’s wrestling tournament in the country, with more than 50 teams and 700 wrestlers competing.
MVC women’s wrestling coach Kevin Corbett says teams from multiple countries across all divisions of women’s wrestling, including NCAA, NAIA and JUCO will be competing.
The Missouri Valley women’s wrestling team is currently ranked No. 18 in the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, with six Nationally ranked individuals. Leading the team is No. 3 Jasmina Immaeva at 124 pounds, and followed by No. 4 Serenity De La Garza at 138 pounds.
Five other Vikings are ranked in their respective weight classes, that includes No. 20 Senior Sage Beltran, No. 19 Sophomore Ashtyn Sagely at 117 pounds, No. 15 Sophomore Isla Baeza at 124 pounds, and No. 13 Senior Autumn Perez at 180 pounds.
Corbett says he feels good about his team’s chances to perform well at the tournament after all the hard work they’ve put in so far.
