The Sedalia City Council completed their latest round of fee amendments Monday, Nov. 17, revising the fees charged for annual business licenses in the city.
Council members approved the ordinance, which city administrator Matthew Wirt says will lower or streamline a number of fees and create a clearer fee structure for businesses and city operations. The council also passed an ordinance formally establishing when political subdivisions operating within the city are eligible for waivers from city permit and inspection fees. Wirt notes that not all fees can be waived.
Also Monday night, the council established a new provisional business license. Wirt said the new class of license comes as several local businesses have experienced delays receiving “No Tax Due” certificates from the Missouri Department of Revenue.
In other action, the Sedalia City Council approved a budget amendment totaling $19,680, allowing three police recruit candidates to attend the Central Missouri Police Academy early next year. The council also amended their budget by $315,000 to allow construction of a new sidewalk along Third Street between Katy Depot and Liberty Park, and approved an agreement providing for inspection services during the latest project to repair the Washington Street Bridge. The council declined to consider a citizen’s request for additional stop signs and reduced speed limits through the Southwest Village neighborhood.
