A member of the Brookfield R-III Board of Education has resigned from the board, in order to become the district’s next bookkeeper.
At their meeting Nov. 18, the board accepted the resignation of Ryan Burns, who had been most recently elected in April and named the board’s treasurer. Burns informed the board that he would apply to become the district’s next bookkeeper. According to the district’s recap of the meeting, the board accepted Burns’ resignation, then learned from Supt. Dr Eric Hoyt that Burns had interviewed for and been offered the job, which he was accepting. The board approved the hire, with Burns starting in the role Tuesday, Dec. 2. His new duties will include serving as the board’s secretary. Hoyt told the board that the vacancy will be published on the district’s website, with letters of interest reviewed during the board’s next meeting Dec. 16.
Also last week, the board approved ballot language for Proposition Two, which will ask voters in April to approve a $4.2 million bond measure. If passed, the bond will cover the replacement and upgrade of Brookfield’s track and field facility, as well as new heating and air conditioning systems, student lockers, and improvements to the elementary school playground. The no-tax increase measure had received support from district voters last April, but was invalidated by the state auditor’s office who said that notice of the election was not published in line with state law. Voters will also have three seats to fill on the April ballot, with those seats currently held by Blake DeVoy, Samantha Howell, and Dave Shaw.
