Slater Mayor Terry Jordan rejected multiple calls for his resignation during the Tuesday, Dec. 2 meeting of the Slater City Council, after a letter surfaced from Jordan in support of a dentist who pleaded guilty earlier this year to misdemeanor stalking and tampering charges.

Five residents expressed their disapproval of Jordan during the public comment portion of the meeting, the first council meeting since an undated letter on city letterhead from Jordan was posted to social media that expressed support for Brian J Fischer. Fischer admitted in Saline County Court in July to charges that he slid a mirror under a bathroom door in August and November 2024, and then offered the victim’s father $500 that a witness described as “hush money”. He was sentenced last month to four days shock incarceration in the county jail and two years probation. Jordan apologized for putting the letter forward.

Jordan’s comments were in response to the comments raised by resident Cindy Marsh, who expressed dismay that Jordan had written the letter.

Jordan acknowledged that he had drafted a letter of resignation but ultimately decided to not submit it. He also acknowledged an announcement from Crystal Wiseman that she would challenge Jordan for the mayor’s seat in April.

Public comments came after a brief meeting that saw the Slater City Council approve both readings of their budget for fiscal year 2026 and an ordinance authorizing the sale of a vacant lot on Jenkins Street.
