The Saline County Commission is preparing an ordinance concerning dust control on the county’s roadways.

At the Wednesday, Dec. 3 session, presiding commissioner Becky Plattner announced that the commission is considering a measure that she says will provide guidance for grading and dust control within the county’s common road district. If adopted by commissioners at their next meeting Dec. 17, the ordinance will direct all roads within the district to be graded at least once per year before the summer, regardless of dust control applications. Property owners who wish to place dust control on a road will need to provide advance notice in writing to the county’s road and bridge department, and cover the cost of the application.

In additional business, commissioners adopted the county’s holiday schedule for 2026, and authorized a special payment schedule date of Dec. 29 to cover year-end invoices. The commission delayed consideration of the monthly additions and abatements report, after Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden questioned why real estate abatements exceeded $50,000. During her report, Gooden detailed her recent trip to Washington, where she participated in a fly-in for the National Association of Counties’ Rural Action Caucus.

Also Wednesday morning, collector Cindi Sims reported that each taxing entity in Saline County had received a letter indicating how much their revenue would be affected by the senior tax credit. The total amount credited to approved property owners in Saline County was announced at about $176,000.
