The Carrollton Town Council passed an ordinance Wednesday, Dec. 3 setting a limit on how long someone can live in temporary housing such as travel trailers.

Mayor Keith Higgins tells KMMO News that the council adopted the ordinance, which had been tabled from a previous meeting. The new ordinance will set a limit of 30 days per year that someone can reside in a travel trailer or other non-permanent structure.  The ordinance does not apply to campers and travel trailers in specially designated recreational vehicle parks or those covered by a special permit. A copy of the ordinance that was included with Wednesday’s agenda can be viewed here.

Also Wednesday night, the Carrollton Town Council also adopted an ordinance that requires someone who boards up a door or window to make repairs within a set amount of time before the building is at risk of being declared dangerous. The council also approved a bid from Ed Warren and Sons for the demolition of two structures, one on the 300 block of E. Third St, and the other on the 300 block of S. Virginia.

Higgins notes that the council began discussion on an ordinance that would have the town enlist the services of the Institute for Building Technology and Safety for the inspection of new construction. Higgins says the council tabled the measure and will ask the Planning and Zoning Commission for their input.
