With the completion of the Lemon Trail bridge, which opened in August 2025, the Missouri Department of Transportation now looks to complete construction of the Nitrogen Avenue bridge over Interstate 70 next year.

The Nitrogen Avenue bridge is located near mile marker 85.8 on I-70. MoDOT Area Representative Marisela Ward says contractors Emery Sapp and Sons have until the end of 2026 to complete the project.

Ward says she plans to host a meeting in January with residents and community members to discuss more details on the project.

Ward also notes that crews will conduct traffic shifts and ramp closures on westbound I-70 between Lafayette County Routes H (mile marker 45.2) and Routes M/O (mile marker 41) beginning on Monday, December 15. Westbound traffic will be moved from the current lanes of travel to the newly constructed pavement in the median of I-70. This traffic configuration is scheduled to last until Spring 2026 and will include narrowed lanes and shoulder work as crews work on reconstructing the current westbound lanes.

The current eastbound I-70 configuration will remain in place.
