The No. 6 seed Missouri Valley College women’s soccer team played in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship in Orange Beach, Alabama, falling 1-0 to Keiser on Friday. The game was delayed one day, and moved to a new location due to weather and field conditions in Pensacola, Florida.

The game started with both teams creating chances in the opening minutes of play. Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance made a save less than two minutes after the kickoff, while Forward Marlene Flores tested the Keiser keeper one minute later, resulting in a corner kick for the Vikings. The two teams traded possession over the next stretch of play, going nearly 20-minutes before another quality chance was created. Forward Silvia Solana Maldonado came up with a shot midway through the half, which was saved by the KU keeper. Both teams struggled to put another shot on goal until late in the half, when a Keiser attempt was saved by Barbara Bujalance with less than seven minutes remaining. Both teams were unable to find the opening goal of the contest, and went into halftime scoreless.

Play in the second half began with Keiser having the better of possession early, and eventually creating a quality chance on goal. The first shot of the half, with just over four minutes off the clock, went into the net and gave KU a 1-0 advantage. Keiser continued to pressure the Vikings, and forced Barbara Bujalance into two saves near the 51-minute mark. Missouri Valley answered four minutes later with a chance, as a shot from Senior Midfielder Carla Carmona was saved. The Vikings tried to build up possession over the next stretch of play, and Flores created a shot on goal midway through the half, but the attempt was saved. Still trailing by one goal with under five minutes to play, MVC worked more late chances. However, shots by Carmona and Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa were both saved. The save off the Carrasco Mesa shot led to a corner kick for the Vikings, and a last-second scramble close to the KU goal. An attempt from Senior Defender Daijah White was saved, and the ball was cleared away from goal as time expired. Missouri Valley had its season end with a 1-0 defeat.

Barbara Bujalance made four saves in goal. Missouri Valley held a 13-9 advantage in shots, including seven shots on goal. The Vikings also created three corner kicks.

The loss puts Missouri Valley’s final record at 18-1-4, while Keiser advances to the National semifinals with an 18-3-1 record.

The quarterfinal round appearance for the Viking women’s soccer team is the best showing at the National tournament since the 1991 team finished as National runner-up.
