Over six months after a change in how the City of Marshall handles building permits, at least one developer is expressing concern about the time it’s taking for the city to issue them.
Sandy Hisle addressed the city council during their Tuesday, Dec. 2 meeting, critical of the time it’s taken to approve construction of a new home.
The house completed in February was prior to Marshall’s decision to bring in the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) to handle inspections and permitting. Hisle called for the return of the in-house inspection department, saying a number of contractors have also come across delays in turnaround time for their permit applications. Hisle’s comments drew a response from several council members, including first ward alderman Drew Green.
Hisle also expressed disapproval about the Planning and Zoning Commission taking four months to have enough members available to host a public hearing on her proposal to convert the former Benton School to apartments.
That hearing on the conditional use permit, which would also allow the operation of a commercial kitchen on the property, is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at the Marshall City Office Building. Two additional items, the expansion of a special use permit for the Salt Fork YMCA and the rezoning of a tract on Route WW for the Marshall Special Road District, are scheduled for public hearing.
